Facets of Love (1973) 88 Films Blu-ray Review

The Shaw Brothers films were not always kung-fu adventure flix. They produced many different genres of films. The films ranged from martial arts, drama, fantasy, comedy and even erotica. Anything they deemed a good money-making adventure they were all in for. 88 Films have been releasing many of the Shaw Brothers films on Blu-ray.

Recently we have seen 88 Films Blu-rays of Kung Fu Instructor and Kid from Kwangtung. But there is yet another 88 Film Shaw Brothers film to talk about. This time it is not a Kung Fu film; it is a romantic drama from 1973 entitled 'Facets of Love'.

Synopsis: A costume drama like no other, Facets of Love tells the stories of the Shanghai brothel in the early years of the 20th century: of its devious owners, of the unhappy innocents that have been tricked into toiling there and of the entitled men who visit, the ordinary and the illustrious.

This is not a Shaw Brothers film that most film fans enjoy. We love our kung fu action. There is a lot of adult content in this film. As you could probably gather from the synopsis. These are not my cup of tea films, but there is no denying the beauty of the set design and the cinematography. Also look for an appearance from Jackie Chan in one of his earliest film roles.

88 Films transferred Kid from Kwangtung to Blu-ray in 1080p. The film is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen format. There are two audio options. There is a Cantonese audio is LPCM 2.0 and an English dub track in LPCM 2.0. The movie is subtitled.

This is another nice looking HD transfer that comes from the original negative. The film looks and sounds crisp and clean. But that is not all that is included here on this Blu-ray. 88 Films added some great bonus features. take a look at what is included

88 Films have been giving us film fans so much beautiful artwork with their release and I am thoroughly impressed. From reversible artwork, slipcovers and art cards. There is so much here to enjoy. The art card is so nice they would defiantly be suitable for framing.
