Throughout the history of television, audiences have been thrilled by the supernatural. Whether it was Boris Karloff in Colonel March of Scotland Yard, Grimm, Warehouse 13, and Mulder and Scully in the X-Files or other shows. One thing has been proven TV fans love the supernatural.
In 2019 Robert and Michelle King created a TV show that dealt with the evil in this world, but not in the normal Mulder, Scully. This series would be seen through the eyes of the Catholic Church. In 'Evil' the Catholic Church hires skeptical forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers, Westworld), Catholic seminarian David Acosta (Mike Colter, Luke Cage) and skeptical technology contractor Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi, Brink) are hired by the Catholic Church to investigate purported supernatural events.
The series started on CBS and then moved to Paramount+ streaming service. When the moved occurred the series went from a TV-14 rating to TV-MA. The handcuffs of broadcast TV was off. The show that was already pretty intense, amped up the intensity for the three seasons that followed.
The stories seen in Evil are intriguing and the acting is spectacular. Michael Emerson really is the standout as Dr. Leeland Townsend. Now with supernatural show TV budgets handcuff the programs and thus most of the time the special effects suffer, and the TV show suffers. Well, Evil special effects are very well done and hide the budget restraints extremely well!
Evil lasted a total of 4 seasons and 50 episodes. Paramount Home Entertainment has released this show on DVD so that fans of physical media can enjoy this show whenever they like without having to have the Paramount+ subscription. 50 episodes are spread across 13 DVD discs. The shows are presented in widescreen format. There are two options for the audio on this DVD. There is an English 5.1 Dolby Digital or an English 2.0 Dolby Digital. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. I always enjoy the addition of subtitles. When watching a show some dialogue you may miss, with this option you can read what you missed!
These episodes look crisp and clean on DVD with no digital artifacts. Paramount Home Entertainment also added some cool bonus features to this DVD set. There are deleted and extended scenes on the episodes. There are also featurettes "Evil Season One: Genesis" and "Does Evil Exist." These bonus features take you further down the 'evil' rabbit hole.
