Hillbillys in a Haunted House (1967) VCI Entertainment Blu-ray Review

In 1966 a country music comedy film debuted that film was entitled "Las Vegas Hillbillys". That film starred Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren. Than just a short year later in 1967 a sequel film entitled "Hillbillys in a Haunted House" was released.

The film featured the musical talents of Ferlin Husky, Molly Bee, Merle Haggard, Sonny James, Jim Kent, Marcella Wright and Don Bowman. Than the film producers also brought some big acting names to this film. There was Joi Lansing (Touch of Evil), John Carradine (House of Frankenstein), Lon Chaney Jr. (The Wolf Man), and Basil Rathbone (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes).

This film was released in May of 1967. So now for the 57th anniversary of this film's theatrical release, VCI Entertainment have released this cult comedy classic on special Blu-ray/DVD combo set.

Synopsis
: Two Country & Western singers and their manager are en route to the Nashville Jamboree but become tired and stop to rest in an abandoned mansion. Little do they know, but the basement of the old house is headquarters for the evil Madame Wong and her entourage of foreign spies. Strange things begin to happen almost immediately and they suspect the place is haunted. However, our three heroes decide to spend the night anyway to escape an upcoming storm. Soon, (a song or two later) they settle down to get some shut-eye. But during the night the spies kidnap our female singer. Now things really get exciting as the hillbillys help capture the bad guys and foil a diabolical plan to steal a secret formula for rocket propellant. Now they're off to Nashville, not very rested, but happy and content to participate in the more normal pleasures of entertaining the audience of the giant Nashville Jamboree.

Hillbillys in a Haunted House is reminiscent of the haunted house comedy of the Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy or TV shows like The Munsters, Andy Griffith Show or Addams Family. The film is like Hee Haw meets The Ghost and Mr. Chicken!

There is no doubt about that fact that this film is silly, but that is the fun of it. If you go into this just looking to have fun with the craziness, I guarantee you will have a good time! The music of the country music star is amazing and the seeing horror legends
John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr. and Basil Rathbone is just too cool.

VCI Entertainment have transferred this crazy comedy to Blu-ray in 1080p and it presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a is a LPCM 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
