Grand Star The Complete Series (2007) Blu-ray Review

Science Fiction is probably my favorite genre of TV. I love shows like Quantum Leap and Sliders. One of my first memories of watching movies was the original Planet of the Apes. That sci-fi film has been a film I have watched probably close to 100 times. It never seems to get old!

So anytime I get to witness a sci-fi movie or TV show I've never seen before, you know I am all in for that. Well, Film Chest Media Group have released the short lived Canadian sci-fi TV series 'Grand Star' on Blu-ray, and I could be more excited about it!

Synopsis: This gripping 26-episode sci-fi series portrays Earth being thrust into an Ice Age in the latter part of the 21st century due to an explosion on the moon. Millions perished, but a few thousand managed to rebuild their lives in railway stations like "Grand Star," where they are subjected to an iron-fisted tyrant, who control all the standard mainstays of life.

Grand Star aired in 2007 on Saturday afternoons on the channel Space: The Imagination Station. Now admittedly the acting is not the greatest. And the CGI at this point in history left a lot to be desired. But the mystery of the reason behind the Ice Age is very interesting and that is why it keeps you watching. I will not discuss the episodes here, as I hate spoilers. So this review is spoiler free!

This show is very binge worthy one. The 26 episodes run about 23 minutes each. So you can really finish this series in no time. Me once I got started I finished an episode and immediately jumped to the next one. Running 10 hours you could finish it on your day off easy.

Film Chest Media Group have transferred these 26 episode to 2 Blu-ray discs. The episodes are presented in 1080p and in widescreen format. That audio is a DTS-HD Master audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

2 Blu-ray discs present thirteen episodes per disc. With these discs being Blu-rays there is more than enough space for these episodes to live with no compression issues. These episodes look sharp and there is no digital artifacts. The audio is clear with no hiss or pops. These are really nice looking transfers.

Now along with a tremendous looking transfers of this complete series. Film Chest Media Group included with this release a booklet filled with complete synopsis for each episode and trivia for each episode as well.

So your not going to find Grand Star on a best of sci-fi TV list with shows like The Twilight Zone, Quantum Leap, The Outer Limits, Firefly, The X-Files, or Star Trek. But it shouldn't be dismissed. It is pretty interesting little series!

If you love sci-fi as much as I do I think Grand Star is a nice little series to escape this world to another one. Head over to Amazon and order your copy of Grand Star on Blu-ray today!

Out if 4 TV Sets (4 being the best) The Blu-ray of Grand Star Complete Series receives....
