Gomer Pyle was such a popular character that producers decided to spin off Gomer into his own series. So, Gomer the country boy would join the marines and thus Gomer Pyle USMC was born.
Gomer Pyle goes from filling station to a member of the armed forces. But he still had his country ways. Gomer tries his best to make his commanding officer Sargent Carter happy, but always seems to find himself in trouble.
This series ran for an incredibly fun 5 seasons and a total of 150 episodes. The writing of the episodes of this series is spectacular. Each episode is so much fun. Jim Nabors is perfect as the country bumpkin Gomer and Frank Sutton is the epitome of the hard-nosed loud marine Sargent Carter. Together they make an unbeatable combo.
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.: The Complete Series makes its debut on Blu-Ray. These episodes are presented in 1080p in its original 4×3 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio track. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
These 150 episodes are spread across 20 discs. That is 4 Blu-ray discs per season. Six episodes per disc. that is more than enough room for these episodes to breathe on Blu-ray. Now when looking at the quality of these transfers. Season 1 is defiantly an upgrade from the previous DVD releases, but the color episodes really show the upgrade to HD. I am so glad that added the Andy Griffith Show episode that served as the pilot of this series. If you own Andy Griffith Show on Blu-ray that this is not a huge deal. But if you don't this is a great addition. And to me this is a great addition anyway as you don't have to break out the Andy Griffith Show Blu-rays if you feel like a Gomer Pyle USMC marathon.
