Eddie Murphy is a comedy legend. From his time on SNL (Saturday Night Live), stand -up specials, classic movies like, Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places and 48 Hrs, just to name a few. Not even to mention his amazing work in the Shrek film series and the Disney film The Haunted Mansion. As well as his remake of the Jerry Lewis classic The Nutty Professor.
Even after all these years he continues to entertain audiences with his movies. Paramount Pictures have been digging into the movie catalogue and releasing classic films on Made-On-Demand DVD. And one such film they have pulled is Eddie Murphy's 2012 film A Thousand Words.
Fast-talking Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy) says whatever it takes to close a deal. But after stretching the truth with a spiritual guru, he suddenly finds his life depending on a magical tree with 1,000 leaves...one for every word he has left. Now Jack's got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he's a goner.
A Thousand Words showcases Eddie Murphy's comedic side, but it also lets him branch out and show a softer side of his acting ability. The film was written by Steven Koren and directed by Brian Robbins. It is a well-crafted tale of love and forgiveness.
Now while you might think this is a family friendly film, you would be wrong there. There is a good chunk of adult language in this film. So, while this is a sweet tale it is not a Disney film. So be aware of that going into this film.
The film has been transferred to Made-On-Demand DVD in widescreen format. There are several audio options. There is English 5.1/French 5.1 and Spanish 5.1. There is also English Audio Description. And there is Subtitles in English, French and Spanish.
The film transfer does look and sound pretty impressive. There are no digital artifacts found on this disc transfer. The picture is crisp and clean, and the audio is clear. As for bonus features there is Deleted Scenes.
I really enjoyed seeing this film on DVD. The only thing that would have made this release better was if it was a pressed disc instead of a Made-On-Demand one. Pressed discs are more durable and have a longer life expectancy. But if you store your burned disc properly, they should last a very long time.
So, if you enjoy Eddie Murphy films as much as I do. Treat yourself to A Thousand Words. You get to see the comedy of Eddie that we all love, but with a good amount of heart sprinkled in there as well. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy of A Thousand Words Today!
