Genie (2923) Movie Review

The holiday season is in full swing. It is time for holiday movies and TV shows. I always enjoy new Christmas movies to watch during the season. Peacock network has been producing original movies and series for a while now. We have seen everything from Saved by the Bell, Bel-Air, and Psych 3: This is Gus. To the latest like Twisted Metal, The Continental and Five Nights at Freddies.

Now for the Christmas season Peacock has produced a remake of the 1991 British TV film entitled Bernard and the Genie that starred Allan Cumming and Rowan Atkinson. Peacock's film is simply entitled "Genie" and stars Melissa McCarthy.

Bernard (Paapa Essiedu) is a workaholic who has lost his wife and daughter because of his desire to get ahead above of his family. Well, he polished a bejeweled box out pops a genie named Flora (Melissa McCarthy) his desire is for her to help him win his family back before Christmas.

Genie really is a very good holiday film. Except for a couple mild words and phrases some parents may find offensive, it is a very good family film. But all in all, it is a funny, dramatic, heartfelt film that the whole family will love. And as much as I enjoyed the original film. I must say I think this remake is a bit better than the original.

I didn't hold a lot of hope when watching this film, but I am glad to announce I was completely wrong. Melissa McCarthy character is delightfully innocent. Flora the genie is experiencing the wonders of this new world with childlike glee. Including enjoying sanitizer, thinking it's a sweet Christmas treat.

If you are looking for a fun, entertaining, delightful holiday comedy film with a lot of heart. Give Genie a chance I think you will be surprised how entertaining it is. Genie is available to stream on Peacock Network.
