Psych the Complete Series: Blu-ray Review

Psych TV Series Physical Media Bluray
In this history of Television there have been many detective comedy dramas. There was the British classic The Avengers, Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd in Moonlighting and recently Monk. Now Monk aired on USA Network. On July 7th 2006 after the fifth season premiere of Monk USA debuted another comedy detective show entitled Psych.

Psych lasted for an amazingly fun 8 season and 3 TV Movies. Now for years Psych had been seen on reruns. Than it was added to Peacock Network and you can stream the series. But as a physical media fan I am so excited to see this series receive a Blu-ray release!

Psych follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a young man who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute that he's convinced Santa Barbara PD detectives into thinking he's psychic. With the reluctant assistance of his best friend Gus (Dule Hill), Shawn uses his skills of observation and charismatic personality to become the detective he was trained to be, opening his own PI agency - Psych - and solving cases for an ever-suspicious, but grudgingly impressed, police force. With Shawn's fake psychic sleuthing and sidekick Gus' nose for clues, the unlikely duo tackles countless murders and mysteries.

Psych is such an intelligently well written show! James Roday and Dule Hill have a great chemistry together. Their banter back and forth is fun to watch. As you watch these two stumble their way through cases to their surprising ends, you are amazed how they find their way to the conclusion, but ultimately root for them all the way to the end. But in addition to these two there was great supporting cast that included, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, Kirsten Nelson and Anne Dudek just to name a few.

All 120 TV episodes and 3 TV Movies have been transferred to Blu-ray. They are presented in 1080p in widescreen format in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The Audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 except for Season One that is in Dolby Digital 2.0. There is also English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. These episodes look and sound crisp and clean with no digital artifacts.

This new Blu-ray set from Universal Pictures is a huge upgrade from the previous DVD release. The previous DVD release discs were set in a flipper hub that would set in a plastic case. Now that is fine, but it is not sturdy. This new Blu-ray set has each season receiving its own Blu-ray case, with 3 Blu-ray discs and unique artwork. The three movies are loaded on one Blu-ray disc all its
own. Than all 9 Blu-ray cases are housed in a cardboard slipcase! Awesome!

Now in addition to 120 episodes and three movies on Blu-ray. Universal Picture Home Entertainment added some very cool bonus features to this set. Take a look at what is included.

For me the complete TV Series and 3 Movies on Blu-ray would be more than enough to call this Blu-ray set a must own. But with the addition of commentaries, deleted and extended scenes, gag reels, featurettes and so much more. There is so much entertainment beyond the series, this is so much better to own this Blu-ray set than to stream it on Peacock Network!

If you love detective comedies like Monk you are going to love Psych. Or if you are looking for the best way to experience this series, I cannot recommend this series enough. It is so much fun, and the Blu-ray set is spectacular. Head over to
