Double Danger: 2 Movie Collection Blu-ray Review

Mill Creek Entertainment have been giving film fans a lot of double feature Blu-ray and DVD here lately. Two of my absolute favorites have to be the Richard Pryor Double Feature and The Apostle & At Play in the fields in the Lord.

So to be honest I was excited to see what was next on the list and we got an action crime drama double feature. And not only that, but one of these films is a Spike Lee production! You can't you get much cooler that that!

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Drop Squad (1994) The DROP (Deprogramming and Restoration of Pride) Squad is an outlaw organization that abducts and "deprograms" African-Americans who exploit and/or deny their cultural heritage. But as the group's methods become increasingly violent, its charismatic leader (Curtis-Hall) must wrestle with a disturbing question: Has his organization lost its way as surely as the brothers and sisters they seek to reform? **

Waist Deep (2006) Locked and loaded with action, Waist Deep is an explosive thrill ride featuring Tyrese Gibson as O2, an ex-con who's trying to go straight. His life takes a deadly turn when his son gets kidnapped in a carjacking and held for ransom by a ruthless drug lord (The Game). With a street-smart hustler (Meagan Good) as his partner and his shady cousin (Larenz Tate) along for the ride, O2 races through the streets of Los Angeles in a desperate attempt to outsmart rival gangs and save his son. ***

This double feature features the acting of such greats as Eriq La Salle, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Ving Rhames, Tyrese Gibson, Meagan Good and Larenz Tate. While these films may not be the greatest you will ever watch, they are exciting and entertaining films. But it should be noted that these films are Rated R and feature a lot of adult content and language. So, there are not for the entire family not by a long shot.

Both films are transferred to the same Blu-ray disc. But before there is an outcry both films together only run 3 hours and 5 minutes so there is plenty of room for both films on Blu-ray disc without compromising the picture quality.

The films have been transferred in 1080p with Waist deep presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio and a DTS-HD master audio 5.1. Drop Squad is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby Digital surround 5.1. Both films have the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The films look pretty good on HD.

Now be aware there are no bonus feature on this Blu-ray. But two movies make a nice double feature for an epic movie night. So, I think that makes this release a pretty nice one. Although bonus features always make releases better.

So if you are looking for an exciting action crime drama double feature for a movie night, why not try Mill Creek Entertainment's Double Danger Blu-ray. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today. This may be just what you were looking for.
