In 1975 MGM and Samuel Z. Arkoff produced a film that was loosely based on the events of Fatty Arbuckle. That film was entitled The Wild Party. The film would star the gorgeous Raquel Welch and the hilarious James Coco. Now this film is arriving on Blu-ray.
1920s Hollywood. Talkies are the rage, but silent film star Jolly Grimm (James Coco) believes he still has a future. To Premiere his latest opus -- a picture in which he's invested his entire fortune -- Grimm throws a party at his mansion. But when his film is tepidly received and his gal (Raquel Welch) sneaks off with an up-and-coming star, Grimm is forced to face a horrible truth about herself.
James Coco brings a performance that is extremely layered. He shows the range of emotion of comedy to rage and does it seamlessly. Raquel Welch shows a vulnerability that makes you sympathize with her. The story is well written, but it should be noted there is some adult language, sexual content, nudity and violence. So, The Wild Party is for adults only,
This film has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The transfer of this looks and sounds amazing. There are no signs of damage to this print.
Now with most physical media fans we buy the DVDs and Blu-rays for the bonus features. I am sad to announce that there are zero bonus features on this disc. There is no audio commentary or even a trailer. It would have been nice to see these bonuses, but there is none.
Now while this is not an actual biographical account of the Fatty Arbuckle party. This is the next best thing. It is a unique film and one that classic films fans will want in their collection.
So, if you are a fan of Raquel Welch, James Coco or 70s films The Wild Party may be the Blu-ray you will want to add to your collection. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today.
