Doris Day and Rock Hudson Romantic Comedy Collection (Blu-ray Review)

When you think about Hollywood onscreen couples, they don't come more iconic than Doris Day and Rock Hudson. Now though they are known for their amazing comedies. They only made three films together. It seems like so many more.

Universal Home Video have released the triple feature of these two icons' movies together on one Blu-ray set. The set is entitled, Doris Day and Rock Hudson Romantic Comedy Collection. Let's take a look at what is included on this 3-disc Blu-ray.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Pillow Talk (1959): Interior decorator Jan Morrow (Doris Day) and playboy composer Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) share a party line and size each other up. ****

Lover Come Back (1961): Jerry Webster (Rock Hudson) and Carol Templeton (Doris Day) work for different agencies.  Carol is disgusted with Jerry's methods and is intent on having him thrown out of his profession. ***

Send Me No Flowers (1964): George (Rock Hudson) is a hypochondriac believes he is dying so he asks his friend Arnold (Tony Randall) to help him find a husband for his soon to be widowed wife Judy (Doris Day). ****

These three classic romantic comedies have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p. Pillow Talk is presented in 2:35:1 Aspect ratio, While Lover Come Back and Send me no Flowers are presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. All three films have two audio options an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono and an English Dolby Digital 2.0. Finally, there is subtitles in English, Spanish and French.

These three romantic comedies look and sound amazing in HD on Blu-ray. But a tremendous triple feature is not all that is included in this set. Universal Home Video added some very cool bonus feature to this 3-disc Blu-ray set. Take a look at what is included.

* Back in Bed with Pillow Talk Feature
* Chemistry 101: The Film Duo of Doris Day and Rock Hudson
* Pillow Talk Feature Commentary with Film Historians Jeff Bond, Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman
* 100 Years of Universal: Restoring the Classics
* 100 Years of Universal: The Carl Laemmle Era
* 100 Years of Universal: Unforgettable Characters
* Trailer for all three films

The special featurettes of Pillow Talk and the chemistry of Doris Day and Rock Hudson are true must watch featurettes. They really take you behind the chemistry of these two icons. But the 100 Years of Universal featurettes are just as much must watch features. I was so impressed by Universal's desire to preserve and restore classics to pristine condition!

These films take you to a different time, a simpler time. Doris Day and Rock Hudson had such great chemistry together. It is mind boggling to me that these two only made three movies together. There were so many more stories that could have been told by these two. It's a shame!
But at least we now have these three films on spectacular Blu-rays and that is a tremendous thing for physical media fans like me.

If you love romantic comedies, it doesn't much better than Doris Day and Rock Hudson's film. This triple feature Blu-ray is a lot of fun and I consider a must own for any classic film fan's collection. Head over to
