Who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory adventure? I know I do! In 2010 NBC debuted a new sci-fi, mystery thriller series entitled The Event. I think that they hoped would be the next "Lost". However that was very large shoes to fill. And would prove to be too large.
Now for the thirteen year anniversary The Event comes to Blu-ray thanks to the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment. But what is the series about? How does the transfer look? Is there bonus features? We answer all those questions... now!
Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, The Class) investigates the disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer, Disturbia), unwittingly exposing a cover-up so big it could change the fate of all mankind. Sean's quest sends ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly-elected U.S. President Elias Martinez and Sophia Maguire, the leader of a mysterious group of detainees. From Nick Wauters (The 4400), Steve Stark (Medium), Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) and Evan Katz (24) comes a suspense-filled journey where the answers only lead to bigger questions.
The Event is an entertaining series. That featuring an intriguing story and good acting. But I must say sometimes with the multiple flashback sequences unveiling the deeper accounts of the story could leave a viewer confused. Also it doesn't help the series that it was cancelled before it had the chance to complete the story, thus the viewer is left with a huge cliffhanger that will never be resolved.
This is truly one of my pet peeves with series. Some of my favorite series of all time did that. I am talking about Quantum Leap, Sliders, Forever Knight, Invasion and Heroes. It doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the series it's just you are left with more questions than answers and that is so frustrating.
Mill Creek Entertainment transfers the entire 22 episode series on 5 Blu-ray discs. The episodes are presented in 1080p in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD 5.1. Finally there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
With this set featuring 5 Blu-ray discs that means there are only 4 to 5 episodes per disc. In my opinion that is plenty of room for these episodes to live on in decent quality. There may be an occasional compression artifacts, but it is rare. The episodes look and sound pretty nice!
Now there are tons of bonus features included in the 5 dosc Blu-ray set as well! Take a look at what is included.
