Complete series Blu-ray review: Dawson's Creek (1998-2003)

In the 1990s to early 2000s the WB Network was one of the best for weekly television shows. The shows included, 7th Heaven, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Felicity, Angel, Roswell, Gilmore Girls, Smallville and yes, Dawson's Creek.

Dawson's Creek was a teen soap opera that ran from January 20, 1998 to May 14, 2003. Now this series have been released on DVD and Blu-ray before. But incase your missed those releases Mill Creek Entertainment has your covered with the complete series now on Blu-ray!

Dawson's Creek chronicles the lives of Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), who dreams of being a filmmaker. His best friend Joey (Katie Holmes), who has been in love with him since childhood, close friend and slacker Pacey, and new girl next door Jen. As these friends suffer from the growing pain of life, family and leaving childhood behind and entering into adulthood!

The stories of this series really are engaging and the acting is great. Dawson's Creek
launched the acting careers of the stars James Van Der Beek (Varsity Blues), Michelle Williams (Venom: Let There Be Carnage), Katie Holmes (Batman Begins), and Joshua Jackson (The Skulls).

Mill Creek Entertainment have spread all 6 seasons and 128 episodes across 20 discs. That is around 7 episodes a disc, more than enough room without any compression issues. I am also glad to announce that the original music is on this set. So those that are longing to hear the "I don't want to wait" by Paula Cole rest assured you will be singing along with this set.

The episodes are presented in 1080p in widescreen 1.78:1 aspect ratio. the soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The bit rate of these episodes are nice so there is no real digital artifacts. The colors are bright and vibrant and the picture is crisp, also the audio is clean. These are really nicely transferred episodes. Kudos to Mill Creek for the fine work they put into this set.

Now for me The complete series on Blu-ray looking as good as it does and including the original music. That would be enough to called this Blu-ray a must own recommendation. But Mill Creek Entertainment didn't stop there. They added some very cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

* Entertainment Weekly's 20th Anniversary Reunion

* New Interviews and Crew Featurettes

* Audio Commentaries on Select Episodes

* Series Retrospective Featurette
Dawson's Creek Day One and Time Capsule

* Alternate Scenes & Ending to Original Pilot Presentation

All 20 discs are in two 10 disc flipper case. No paper sleeves or cardboard cases here! Each Blu-ray disc has its own disc hub. The two cases are broke up season 1-3 and than 4-6. There back side of each Blu-ray case insert features a collague of stills from those seasons. So cool!

Dawson's Creek was more than just a TV show. For many people it is a time capsule to their youth. Probably watching the show again takes the viewers back to those days. For me watching this show for the first time. It is an entertaining show! And if you have never seen it, but love dramatic series, this is defiantly a show you need to see.
