Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi are names synonymous with horror thrillers. Bela of course played the iconic vampire Count Dracula and Boris the Frankenstein monster and the mummy Imhotep. After this they would continue to make thrillers, Boris of course having more success than Bela.
Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment are giving physical media film fans a chance to own eight great classic thrillers from yesteryear on Blu-ray. All thanks to their new release Thrillers from the Vault. Let's take a look at what is included in this set.

Most of the time when you say classic horror most people envision Universal Monster movies and with good reason of course. But Columbia Pictures did their fair share of great horror films as you can above. Boris Karloff stars in the majority of these releases, six to be exact. Bela stars in The Return of the Vampire and Five stars neither of these horror icons. But look out for an appearance of another thriller icon Peter Lorre in one of these films.
All eight films have been transferred in 1080p and are presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This is a four disc Blu-ray set meaning that each disc holds 2 films. All of the films run 90 minutes or less, so there is more than enough room of these disc for these films to thrive. The picture quality looks amazing. Mill Creek Entertainment released these films before as part of the Horror Hall of Fame Collection. This is a definite upgrade. But what makes this set even more of a must own is the fact of the bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
* Madness and Mayhem: Horror in the 30s and 40s: C. Courtney Joyner brings us a nice extremely insightful little 36 minute historical look at horror films at Columbia Pictures.
* Audio Commentaries for The Black Room, The Man who could not Hang, The Devil Commands, The Boogie man will get you and Five
As a fan of classic horror films this is so cool to see these films get a chance to shine on Blu-ray in HD. The stories are thrilling and the look spectacular and the bonus features are so nice to see. This set is highly recommended.
