Blu-ray Review: Becky (2022)

Horror movies used to be for Halloween Season, but now movie goers love to watch them anytime of the year. One such film was Becky. It was set to have it's world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2020. Well, that all changed as the world was sent into a pandemic with Covid-19.

On June 5, 2020  it would receive a video-on-demand, digital platforms and in select drive-in theaters release by Quiver Distribution and Redbox Entertainment. Now Ronin Flix are giving this horror film a chance to thrive on Deluxe Blu-ray.

Spunky and rebellious Becky (Lulu Wilson, Annabelle, The Haunting of Hill House) tries to reconnect with her father Jeff (Joel McHale, Happily, Community) during a weekend getaway at a lakefront house. But the trip soon takes a turn for the worse when convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James, Kevin Can Wait, The King of Queens), suddenly invade the home.

Becky is a gory horror thriller. While the story is kind of thin, it's brisk pace takes the viewer on a non stop thrill ride. Joel McHale and Kevin James known for their time on incredibly funny sitcoms Community and The King of Queens, really show that they can hang in something more than comedy. But probably the true stand out here is Lulu Wilson.

Now this horror film is not for the average horror film this is more for the gore hound! The film is ultra violent and gory. There is also a pretty good amount of perverse language as well! So viewer just be aware of that going into this one.

The film has been transferred in 1080p High Definition in widescreen format in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. There are two choices for an audio a 5.1 Surround & 2.0 Stereo Lossless DTS-HD Master Audio. There is also English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The film is a 2020 so it is shot in HD and there is be no degradation of the picture from time. So of course this transfer looks great and the audio choices are great as well! Although you may want to choose the 5.1 (if you have that set-up) as it gives the viewer a much better experience.

Now a great transfer is not all that is included here. Ronin Flix added some amazing bonus features to this Blu-ray release, giving the viewer much more to enjoy with this release. Take a look at what is included.

* Film introductions from directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion

* Two Heads are Better than One: Directing Becky with Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion

* No Laughing Matter with Joel McHale

* The Fight of her Life with Lulu Wilson

Ok so while I enjoy a good horror film, I am not a huge fan of gore horror. But I know there are people that can't get enough of these type of films. While the plot is thin as I said earlier, most gore films are thin in the plot area, so that won't bother the viewer.

If you love gruesome horror thrillers Becky might just be the film you are looking for to scratch that horror itch. Head over to
Amazon and order your copy today.

For fans of this film Becky will return with a sequel film "Becky 2" later this year 2023.
