Ernest Borgnine, most TV fans would remember him from his shows McHale's Navy, Airwolf. or the short lived sci-fi cop show Future Cop. But many may not realize that before he was a TV star he was an Academy Award winning actor.

In 1955 Ernest Borgnine would take on the titles role of the film Marty. The film that would gain him the Oscar. Now the good folks at Kino Lorber under the division KL Studio Classics are giving this classic a Blu-ray release.

The film follows the life of Marty Piletti (Ernest Borgnine), a bachelor butcher who lives with his mother (Esther Minciotti) in the Bronx. Marty has continuously struck out with the opposite sex. But one fateful night he goes out to a ballroom and meets a teacher named Clara (Betsy Blair). The two have instant chemistry, but his relatives discourage him from pursuing the relationship. Marty must decide between his family or a chance at true love.

Marty is such a great drama. I loved it the first time I saw it. Paddy Chayefsky (Network) wrote such an great screenplay. Delbert Mann (Separate Tables) did a masterful job of direction and the cast is stellar. No wonder it won 4 Academy Awards including; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. It was the first film to win both the Best Picture Oscar® and the Cannes Film Festival’s Golden Palm.

Kino Lorber's new Blu-ray release of Marty boasts of a new 4K master. The film looks amazing on Blu-ray in this new master. When they used to say in "glorious black and white", you can use that tag for this new master. It looks that remarkable.

On this Blu-ray release you get two versions of this award winning film you get both the widescreen (1.85:1) and the full screen (1.33:1) versions both presented in 1080p. The audio is a DTS-HD 2.0. But that's not all that is included in on this Blu-ray. Take a look what else is included.
