June 10th 2022 marked the 100th birthday of the great Judy Garland. Who doesn't remember growing up watching her in The Wizard of OZ.
Judy was a versatile entertainer. During her short, but illustrious career she received an Academy Juvenile Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award and a Grammy Award.
During her birthday month the fine folks at Warner Archive have released movies featuring Judy Garland on Blu-ray. This time we are talking about 1945's romantic comedy The Clock.
While enjoying a two day leave in New York City, soldier Joe Allen (Robert Walker) meets secretary Alice Mayberry (Judy Garland). There are immediate sparks for the two. Alice decides to show Joe the town. As they tour the sights they fall in love. In a spur of the moment decision they get married before Joe must return to duty.
The film runs a mere 90 minutes and it is a fast-paced romantic romp through New York. The story is entertaining one. It is interesting as Judy is known for her musical vehicles, this one is not a musical. This simply a romantic comedy. And in The Clock she proves she is morte than just a singer.
The film was directed by Judy's future husband Vincente Minnelli and one thing is for sure he knew how to shoot Judy to get the most from her natural beauty. Judy and Robert star in this film, but they are joined by a great supporting cast featuring, James Gleason (It's A Wonderful Life), Keenan Wynn (The Hucksters), Marshall Thompson (Fiend Without a Face), and Lucile Gleason (The Shannons of Broadway).
The Clock debuts on Blu-ray in 1080p in the original 1.37 aspect ratio. The film has been remastered in 4k from the best surviving elements. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono track.
Watching this film's new transfer is a pleasure. The picture is sharp and the audio is clear. The is really no signs of degradation of the picture and the audio is void of pops and hisses. This new 4K scan is simply amazing!
A great looking transfer is not where this Blu-ray ends. Not for the great Judy Garland. Warner Archive added some very cool bonus features to this Blu-ray. Take a look at what is included.
* Vintage Peter Smith Specialty Short Hollywood Scout: A 1945 short about talented dogs, bear, and an ape
* Classic Cartoon The Screwy Truant: Screwy Squirrel is pursued by a truant officer.
* Radio Show Adaptation with Judy Garland and John Hodiak (an almost 50 minute radio adaption)
* Theatrical Trailer

The Clock is an under rated Judy Garland film. When most people think of Judy they think of her musicals, but this one should be in the conversation as one of her best. She does so much in such a little span of time. I highly recommend check this one out.
This Warner Archive Blu-ray of The Clock is a gorgeous looking 4K scan and loaded with cool bonuses. It is a must add to anyone's Judy Garland collection. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) Warner Archive's Blu-ray release of The Clock receives...
