Film Noirs were all the rage during. Film Noirs were mystery films that were produced on the cheap and yet were ultra popular so that the producers could see a nice profit. So over the early years of cinema tons of film noirs were produced.

Kino Lorber has been championing physical media releases of some of these classic film noirs via the Cohen Film Collection. Here at Classic Cinema Plus we have reviewed the double feature Blu-ray Cast a Dark Shadow / Wanted For Murder and the DVD release of Sudden Fear

Well now it is time for another film noir from Kino Lorber and Cohen Media Group. This time around it is a Blu-ray of the 1962 Brit Noir entitled Jigsaw. Now when most people hear Jigsaw they may think of the Saw franchise, but me I think of the film noir.

When a woman is found murdered, dismembered and stuffed in a hope chest on the coast from Brighton. Local detectives Fellows (Jack Warner, A Christmas Carol) and Wilks (Ronald Lewis, Mr. Sardonicus) lead an investigation methodically following up leads assemble a jigsaw puzzle of clues as they attempt to track down her murderer.

Jigsaw is engaging murder mystery that will keep you guessing to the end. While the film runs almost 2 hours you will never grow weary with the story. The film was masterfully written, produced and directed by Val Guest (The Quartermass Xperiment). The film was based on the novel, "Sleep Long, My Love" by Hillary Waugh.

This classic British Film Noir was been lovingly restored and what a restoration it is! This newly restored version of this film has been transferred in 1080p in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

When I watched this new restored version of this film on this Blu-ray I was stunned to say the least. The picture quality of this new restoration is amazing. There is no signs of damage. It is so crisp and clear it looks as though it could have been shot in this day and age with HD cameras. It looks that great.

As for bonus feature. There is only the trailer of the film. I wish there could have been a video retrospective or a audio commentary. That would have been nice. But this restoration is so gorgeous. It is worth the price for that alone.

Jigsaw ranks right up there with some of the best film noirs in history. And this new restoration is something that a film of this quality truly deserves. Jigsaw is available on both Blu-ray and DVD. I highly recommend it for film noir fans. You can head over to Amazon or KinoLorber and pick up your copy today.
