A few months ago Kino Lorber released an absolutely amazing film noir on DVD entitled Sudden Fear featuring Joan Crawford from Cohen Film Collection. You can read the review of that release here.
Now it's time for another film noir release. The only thing is this time they are doubling the features and thus doubling the film noir fun.
The Cohen Film Collection presents both film noirs Wanted For Murder and Cast a Dark Shadow in HD on Blu-ray for the first time. Let's take a look at this dark mystery Blu-ray.
Film Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.
Wanted For Murder (1946) The son of a notorious hangman is gradually becoming insane and he finds himself unable to resist the urge to strangle women to death. ***

Wanted For Murder (1946) The son of a notorious hangman is gradually becoming insane and he finds himself unable to resist the urge to strangle women to death. ***
Cast A Dark Shadow (1955) Edward "Teddy" Bare thinks he has committed the perfect crime when he kills his older wife and now in line to inherit a fortune. When things fail, he sets his sights on a new victim. ***
The direction of Lewis Gilbert and Lawrence Huntington in these films are amazingly shot noirs. The scripts are filed with great dialogue and these films are fast paced mysteries. The cast is filled with great acting including, Dirk Bogarde, Margaret Lockwood, Kay Walsh, Eric Portman, Dulcie Gray and Derek Farr. Also look for Kathleen Harrison in both films.
The films have seen restored in 2K and transferred to Blu-ray. Both films are presented in 1080p with Wanted for murder in 1.33:1 aspect ratio and Cast a Dark Shadow in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. As for the audio both are presented in 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing on both films.
Sometimes these old films noir prints are so beat up they can almost be unwatchable. These restorations look crisp and and sound clear. They truly look magnificent. Than as a special bonus Kino Lorber added theatrical trailers of both films. As a fan of trailers, I love this bonus. There is nothing like a trailer to whet your appetite for the feature film.
If you love film noirs as much as me I can not recommend this double feature Blu-ray enough. Head over to Amazon.com and order your copy today!
