In the 90's people were all say "Hey Bu-ddy!" And it was all because of one man. Pauly Shore created an alter ego persona called "The Weasel". This character was a surfer and spoke dude slang .
In 1992 Pauly Shore began making movies starting with Encino Man. He would follows that film up with Son-in-law and In the Army now. Than in 1995 would find him serving "Jury Duty".
Now the fine folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have released Jury Duty on Retro VHS style Blu-ray. Let's take a look at this release.
The film follows unemployed slacker, Tommy Collins (Shore) who ends up homeless when his mom (Shelly Winters) gets married and throws him out of their trailer. Desperate for a place to stay, Collins figures that landing a spot on a jury should get him a roof over his head, food in his belly and a few bucks in his pocket. Shockingly, his plan works -- and he will do anything to delay the trial's verdict so he can keep living large and make his moves on knockout juror Monica.
Anyone who has seen a Pauly Shore movie knows what your getting. His movies are not trying to save the world, they are just trying to make you laugh.
The story is nothing complex. The dialogue is simplistic. The comedy is low brow, but that's is what your looking for in a Pauly Shore film.
As for this blu-ray release the film is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen format and the audio is dts-HD master audio 2.0 lossless soundtrack. There is also an option for English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired. Which is really nice.
The film looks very good on the HD television. The colors are vibrant and there is very little sign of grain. The audio is crisp and clean and there is no sign of hiss or pops.
This retro VHS Blu-ray release has no bonus features. But for me, I remember as a child going to the video store and you got the movie and that was it. This reminds me of that experience. The retro slipcover looks amazing and I am glad to display it on my shelf.
I love what Mill Creek Entertainment is doing with these Retro releases. They are nostalgic and are so much fun to collect.
