Western Double Feature {DVD Review}

Reviewed by: Jason Lockard

The American Old West. It was a time of cowboys and bandits! Shootouts and showdowns. Filmmakers throughout history love to look back at this simpler yet dangerous time.

Many amazing actors have put on the Stetson hat, strapped on the six shooter and crawled on the back of a horse to play cowboy in every young boys dream.

Alpha Video has released a western double feature on DVD. Lets take a look at the films included on this DVD and the quality of the prints of the films included in this collection.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

The Proud and the Damned (1972) A group of five Confederate mercenaries must choose sides carefully in a small village where they find a rebellion. **

The Four of the Apocalypse (1975) Four petty criminals, three men and a woman, wander through the trackless terrain of the Wild West Utah and are hounded by a sadistic bandit. ***

'The Proud and the damned' boasts of the talents of Chuck Conners and the great Caesar Romero. 'The four of the Apocalypse' is directed by iconic horror film maker Lucio Fulci. He brings the violence he is known for to the old west. The action in these two film is great. The stories are not bad, a little slow in places. But still pretty good low budget movie fare.

The DVD menu is easy to navigate. You just highlight the movie title click and go. The film prints are decent, there is some film grain and damage, but nothing that should take away from the enjoyment of these films. There are no bonus features, but two films on one DVD is not a bad deal.

So if your a fan of 70s westerns this maybe a DVD you want to add to your collection. Head over to Oldies.com and pick up a copy for yourself today.
