Alvin and the Chipmunks 1, 2 & 3 (2007-11) {DVD Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

David Seville and the Chipmunks or simply the Chipmunks, is an American animated music group created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. for a novelty record in 1958. It was such a huge success that it spawned more records, an cartoon series and movies.

In 2007 it was time to reboot the Alvin and the Chipmunks into a full length feature. This film would than spawn 3 additional films. In this recent pick up I got the first three films on DVD. Let's take a look at the films in this collection.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)
A struggling songwriter named Dave Seville finds success when he comes across a trio of singing chipmunks: mischievous leader Alvin, brainy Simon, and chubby, impressionable Theodore. **

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel (2009)
The world famous singing pre-teen chipmunk trio return to contend with the pressures of school, celebrity, and a rival female music group known as The Chipettes. **

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011) P
laying around while aboard a cruise ship, the Chipmunks and Chipettes accidentally go overboard and end up marooned in a tropical paradise. They discover their new turf is not as deserted as it seems. **

The films are collected on three separate DVDs. They are presented in widescreen format and in Dolby digital surround sound. Each DVD has it's own unique set of bonus features! The major downfall in this collection is the first disc. It is a dual sided (I hate dual sided discs) including the Full Screen version on one side and the widescreen version on the other.

The CGI is really believable, the actors do a great job interacting with this animated characters. The stories are not overly difficult to follow. Which will be great for kids, but adults may find themselves a bit bored.

So if you love Alvin and the Chipmunks this is a good little collection of the first 3 films. Head over to Amazon.com and pick up a copy for yourself!
