Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004) {Blu-ray Review}

Who would have ever dreamed a film about banter in a barber shop would have done so well as to justify a sequel? But Barbershop did! Now Ice Cube and the whole crew are back with another story to tell in Barbershop 2. Now the good folks at MVD have released this film on Blu-ray via the MVD Marquee collection.

The film follows Calvin Palmer Jr. and all the crew at the Barbershop in South Side Chicago. Everything seems to be going good. But that is all about to change as a fancy new sports-type barbershop "Nappy Cuts" move right across the street, threatening to put Calvin and the crew out of business! What is a business owner to do? Fight or Quit! As Calvin said, "We about to get proactive rather than reactive!"

This is a good story of hope. Not giving up in the face of disaster! Community strength! It is a uplifting tale! Maybe not as strong a story as the first one, but a good one! A welcomed addition to this film was the talents of Queen Latifah and Kenan Thompson. 



On a side note that the banter in this sequel has been amped up a lot, from the first film! So if certain words bother this may not be the film for you! But this is a very good film raising questions for discussion.
 
The film looks and sounds amazing on Blu-ray! It is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen. The audio is in English 5.1 surround sound and in Spanish in Stereo Surround. The picture quality is amazing and the sound is clear. There is also Subtitles in English, French Spanish.
This release is also loaded with bonus features! It includes; Commentary feat actors Cedric the Entertainer, Sean Patrick Thomas, Troy Garity and Jazsmin Lewis, Audio Commentary with Director Kevin Sullivan and Producers Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr., 6 Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, Extended Music Video: ''Not Today'' - Mary J. Blige feat. Eve, Music Video: ''I Can't Wait'' - Sleepy Brown featuring OutKast, Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery and bonus Trailers. Note all the bonus features are in Standard Definition!

While not as strong as the first movie it is is good sequel and if you loved Barbershop you know you got to have Barbershop 2. And this blu-ray is the way to get it! I highly recommend it for fans of the Barbershop franchise head over to MVDshop.com and get yours today.
