Reviewed by: Jason S. LockardWe all love to laugh. Whether it's at slapstick, stand-up or sketch comedy. One show that has become somewhat of a cult classic over the years is The kids in the hall. Now Mill Creek Entertainment brings us the truly complete uncensored series on DVD.
The Kids In The Hall was a comedy troupe that formed in 1984 and got their start doing sketch comedy at a small live music venue on Queen St. West in Toronto. The troupe consisted of Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson. Lorne Michaels producer of Saturday Night Live saw them and urged them to produce a pilot episode. This would lead to five seasons of television shows on Canadian TV and HBO. The Kids in the Hall series ran from 1988 until 1994.
The kids in the Hall was a quirky sketch comedy show reminiscent of Monty Python's Flying circus. They created some off the wall kind of characters including; Chicken lady, a half-human half-chicken who is completely oblivious to how freakish and terrifying people find her. Cabbage head, a man with cabbage for hair who uses that to garner sympathy. And The Headcrusher, a lonely man who despises everyone calling people "flatheads" because in his mind he crushes their heads. These are just three of the many, many characters created in the five seasons.
The comedy as with any sketch comedy show is kind of hit and miss. Some sketches are hilarious and others fall a tad short of funny. But as I said that is found in any sketch comedy show. Also there is a lot of adult humor and some adult language. So parent be aware of that. This is not a series for the entire family.
