The Dick Van Dyke Show Season 4 (1964-65) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

I was privileged to receive Image Entertainment’s Blu-Ray release of The Dick Van Dyke Show the complete fourth season. Usually after about 3 seasons you can see the stories becoming a little less than spectacular, but not The Dick Van Dyke Show. Season 4 held just as many funny and classic TV moments as the first three seasons did.

By now we all know head writer for the Allan Brady Show, the clumsy and lovable Robert Petrie (Van Dyke), his wisecracking co-writers Sally, Buddy, his wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), son Richie and the wacky next door neighbors The Helpers. The gang is all here for more wacky antics.

This Season contained 32 hilarious episodes. Some of the best were; ‘My mother can beat up my father’ Laura defends Rob at a bar with judo, but ends up bruising his ego in the process. ‘The Ghost of A. Chantz’ Rob, Buddy, Laura, and Sally spend the night in a cabin that is haunted. ‘100 terrible hours’ Just before Rob is to interview for The Alan Brady Show. Rob (a radio DJ) tries to break a record by stay awake for 100 hours on the radio. ‘Br-room Br-room’ Rob takes his new motorcycle for a ride and is arrested. These are just some of the standouts, but every episode is good! You won’t find one bad one in the whole season!

Now these episodes are taken from the original 35mm prints and are transferred in HD on three 50GB Blu-ray discs and if that wasn’t enough, let’s look at the bonus features! This collection is jammed with great things including a full length documentary ‘the Dick van Dyke Show Remembered’, audio commentaries with Carl Reiner, Dick Van Dyke and Garry Marshall, Dick Van Dyke singing the theme song at the Hollywood Bowl, promos clips of others shows and so much more.

So if you love classic TV as much as I do or you want to uncover a great family sitcom. They come no better than The Dick Van Dyke Show. I highly recommend you head over to Amazon or your local Blu-Ray provider and pick this one up. You won’t regret it!
