The Dick Van Dyke Show Season 5 (1965-66) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

I was privileged to receive Image Entertainment’s Blu-Ray release of The Dick Van Dyke Show the complete fifth and final season. It is said all good things must come to an end and after 5 great fun-filled years Dick Van Dyke Show finished it’s hilarious run.

After four years of crazy antics, funny gags and hilarious guest stars, the fifth season would be the final one for our favorite head comedy writer Rob Petrie, wife Laura and the rest of the kooky cast we had come to love, but they would leave us will some lasting memories we would never forget.

This Season contained 31 hilarious episodes. Some of the best were; ‘Cost-to-Coast Big Mouth’ A game show host tricks Laura into revealing that Alan Brady is bald! ‘The man from My Uncle’ When a government agent uses Ritchie’s bedroom as a stakeout point, Rob is captivated by the agent’s gadgets and lingo. ‘A long night’s journey into day’ When Rob and Jerry go fishing, A sick Laura is left behind terrified by night noises, strange events, and a mysterious intrusion. These are just some of the standouts in this final season of this TV classic!

Now these episodes are taken from the original 35mm prints and are transferred in HD on three 50GB Blu-ray discs and if that wasn’t enough, let’s look at the bonus features! This collection is jammed with great things including Audio commentaries with Dick Van Dyke, Carl Reiner, Rose Marie, Larry Matthews, and Bill Idelson, Don Rickles remembers his two-part episode, TV Land tribute to Carl Reiner, spots promos and so much more.

So if you love The Dick Van Dyke Show as much as I do and you have all four seasons, you know you have to have the final season. Image Entertainments release is perfect. I highly recommend you head over to amazon or your local Blu-Ray provider and pick this one up. You won’t regret it!
