Blu-ray Review: L.A. Wars (1994)

In the 1990s movie goers couldn't get enough of action flicks. Whether it was the films of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal or just a good ole independent action film. One thing was for sure people loved their action adventures.

MVD Rewind Collection have been releasing many action films on Blu-ray. But the latest action film to receive the Blu-ray treatment is 1994's L.A. Wars starring Vince Murdocco.

A disgraced and trigger-happy ex-cop Jake Quinn (Vince Murdocco, Kickboxer II) goes undercover in a mafia organization lead by boss Carlo Giovani's (A.J. Stephans, "Baywatch") under the guise of protecting the crime boss's daughter from a new rival, the power hungry drug lord Raul Guzman (Rodrigo Obregón, Hard Ticket to Hawaii). But what is on the horizon us a bloody war on the streets of L.A.

For a low budget cheezy action film from the 90s there is plenty of action. Producers really used the budget to really amp up the action and violence, which is what movie fans wanted. The acting is so so, but action movie fans want just that, the action and they get it in spades in L.A. Wars.

In the 1990s actions films could be pretty extreme at times. Well L.A. Wars is a bit extreme. The violence is pretty intense, there is some drug use, sexual content with nudity and the profanity is heavy. So just be aware.

MVD has transferred L.A. Wars to Blu-ray in
High Definition (1080p) it is presented in it's original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. There are audio options for English LPCM 2.0 Mono, LPCM 2.0 Stereo, French Mono, Italian Mono. Finally there is the option for English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now this interesting thing about this transfer is this is not just an ordinary transfer, oh no! This is a transfer from a 2020 scanned and restored 2K print from 16mm archival elements. The film looks and sounds amazing on Blu-ray. But a gorgeous scan is not all that is included. MVD Rewind added some cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
