Great Hollywood Actors on Television Volume 2 (1953-59) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

Many great Hollywood stars graced the small screen, and I'm talking the big ones! They would show up on comedy shows such as Jack Benny Program or the multiple Theater programs that bought us hour long features. In Great Hollywood Actors on Television Volume 2 our friends at Alpha Video brings us a collection of just such programs.

Let's take a look at what is included in this DVD collection.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend a half an hour.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

The Star and The Story "The Blue Landscape" (1955): Peter Lorre plays a police inspector investigating the disappearance of a famous painting, "The Blue Landscape", which was stolen and replaced with a forgery. ***

Errol Flynn Theatre "Rescued" (1953): When an English Lord is captured by enemies of the King, heroic Captain Morton (Flynn) and his men come to the rescue. ***

The Christophers "A Link in the Chain" (1957): James Cagney made his first appearance on television in this episode. Cagney plays a college professor on the verge of retirement who believes he's accomplished nothing with his life. As he looks back (through flashbacks), he sees just how much of an impact he really had on his students' lives. ****

G.E. Theatre "The Stone" (1959): This is a retelling of the Old Testament story of David and Goliath. Tony Curtis plays David, also in this film is Rita Moreno, Pernell Roberts (Bonanza and Trapper John, M.D.). ****

The audio and video quality varies between episodes, but none of them are in my opinion bad quality! There is some imperfections in the videos but you have to expect that out of shows that are over 60 years old! How many of us will look perfect at 60?

I really enjoyed this collection of TV episodes and I think anyone who is a classic TV fanatic will love them too! So head over to www.Oldies.com and check out this and other great releases from there amazing library of releases!
