My Only Friend is a Corpse (Blu-ray Review)

Comedy horror is a hard genre to master. Very few filmmakers have done it well. In 2025, Jack Bayless decided to try his hand at the comedy horror genre with his film "My Only Friend Is a corpse". 

MVD Entertainment Group are giving this low-budget comedy horror film a chance to live forever of physical media in your home video library with this Blu-ray release of My Only Friend is a Corpse.

Synopsis: A punk runaway named Danny stumbles upon a sentient, decaying corpse behind a dumpster, sparking an unlikely and darkly comedic friendship. The corpse, driven by a warped sense of purpose, convinces Danny that the only way to save humanity is by killing God. Together, the pair set out on a violent and bizarre road trip across the Midwest, encountering a chaotic world filled with monsters, demons, angels, and other supernatural horrors. As their journey unfolds, Danny is pulled deeper into the corpse's deadly mission, forcing him to confront the consequences of their actions and the increasingly blurred line between salvation and destruction--all with a twisted sense of humor.

The film's runtime is 70 minutes which is perfect. Any more and it would have started to drag. One word comes to mind when talking of the practical effects for this film... sick. What I mean by that is the gory effects are so realistic that they almost make you sick.  For gorehounds, that is just what they are looking for.

Okay, so this film is not "Halloween" of the horror genre or Some Like it Hot" of the comedy genre. To be honest, the film is completely strange. I mean, off-the-wall, crazy strange. To the point that sometimes you don't know what is going on. That doesn't mean it is not entertaining. Yes, the film has its flaws. But in the end being entertained is all we as film fans ask for.

The film has been transferred to Blu-ray ion 1080p and is presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English 2.0 Stereo track. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The film is not a big budget film it is a small budget film, so the film is gritty. The Blu-ray transfer is pretty good and for bonus features. This disc has a 14-minute Interview Featurette, a Director's Commentary and a Theatrical Trailer.
