Project Hail Mary (4K UltraHD Review)

Science Fiction films have always been popular with moviegoers. In the early years for the most part, sci-fi was campy entertainment. When 2001 A Space Odyssey was released, science fiction started to be taken seriously.

Since then Sci-fi film have won awards and have received the respect it so richly deserves. In 2026 Amazon/MGM released what would become a critically acclaimed film, Project Hail Mary. Now, after its theatrical and streaming run, this film is receiving its physical media release on 4K UltraHD.

Synopsis: Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Project Hail Mary is essentially The Martian meets Interstellar meets Apollo 13. Ryan Gosling really spreads his acting wings here to bring (in my humble opinion) one of his best performances. If there is one downside to this film, it would be the time running over 2 and a half hours it can seem a bit much at times and drags a bit in places.

Project Hail Mary has been transferred to 4K in 2160p and is presented in widescreen format. The audio track is an English Dolby Atmos TrueHD, A French track in DTS-HD Master Audio and a Dolby Digital English Descriptive track, French and Spanish. There are subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

Project Hail Mary looks simply stunning in UltraHD. The colors pop right off the screen. The flesh tones are correct and the picture is as sharp as a tack. As for bonus features included on this 4k disc is a commentary, deleted scenes, and a featurette.

Project Hail Mary is a wonderfully visual and thought-provoking story that stays with you long after the credits roll. The addition of an insightful audio commentary and the featurette increases the collectability of this 4k!
