A Midsummer Night's Dream (Warner Archive Blu-ray Review)

In the history of the world, there are few writers who are more well-known than William Shakespeare. His plays have been performed and put to film many times over the years. 

One of his most iconic plays was A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1935, Max Reinhardt brought this play to the silver screen with a star-studded cast. Now Warner Archive Collection has restored and released this classic on Blu-ray!

Synopsis: Love is blind, fickle and true. And under the saw if capricious fairies, it becomes blinder (a queen romances a donkey), more fickle (best friends swoon over each other's beaus) and truest of all (lovers repledge their devotion). "Lord, what fools these mortals be!"" 

Reinhardt's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is a charming supernatural comedy. The film stars some of the best Warner stock players like, James Cagney, Olivia de Havilland, Mickey Rooney, Joe E. Brown, Anita Louise, Dick Powell, Ross Alexander, Victor Jory and Ian Hunter. This film is worth the watch just for the roster of acting talent all in one place.

Warner Archive Collection has transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.37 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Warner Archive has restored this film and it looks impressive. The black and white is just amazing. The picture is surprisingly crisp and clean for a film that is over 90 years old. Warner Archive didn't stop with a remarkable restoration. They added some wonderful bonus features.
