In 1977 he directed a musical. Yes, a musical. That musical was entitled "New Your, New York" and starred Liza Minnelli and Robert DeNiro. Okay, I know what some of you are thinking: Robert DeNiro in a Musical? Yes! Now, MVD Marquee Collection is releasing this film in 4k UltraHD!
Synopsis: Against the vibrant, meticulously recreated backdrop of 1940s New York, the two artists rise through the competitive world of show business, navigating the intoxicating highs of success and the painful strains of personal ambition. Their romance is marked by intense chemistry as well as deep conflict, with clashing personalities and creative differences threatening to unravel both their relationship and their careers.
While it may seem a bit strange to see DeNiro, the tough guy, in a romantic musical, he doesn't seem to be out of place here. Liza belts out those numbers like only she can. So, this is not Scorsese's best film, not by a long shot. But there is no denying that if you just go with the flow and enjoy the musical ride, you'll have a good time.
MVD has transferred this film to 4k and Blu-ray in 2160p and presented in the original 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and a LCPM 2.0 Stereo track. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
MVD's transfer of New York, New York is something of a remarkable feat. This film looks impressive to me. Now, this being the first time I have ever seen this film, I have nothing to compare it to. But I think it looks tremendous.

It would have been easy just to throw a movie on a 4K disc and call it a day. But not MVD! As you can see, they went above and beyond with this release. So many bonus features to enjoy. And I must say I love the reversible artwork that features caricatures of Minnelli and DeNiro.
