Hungry (DVD Review)

Survival films are always a lot of fun to watch. Whether it's The Grey (2011), The Revenant (2015) or as classic as Castaway (2000). Fighting against nature for survival is fun to watch, not so much to experience.

Well, the latest survival film is 2026's Hungry. This new survival adventure puts us in the front seat for the adventure. Hungry is coming to DVD in August of 2026.

Synopsis: After becoming lost in the Louisiana swamplands, a group of holidaymakers must fight for their lives against a rampaging hippo on the loose.

Now, the story's premise here is a good one. But the execution leaves a bit to be desired. The pacing is slow and the hippo attacks are a but underwhelming. Now for the good points! the CGI hippo was better than I expected. Shot on location in Malta enhances the film rather than being shot on a stage. And the performances of Madison Davenport, Tracey Bonner, Joaquim de Almeida, and Michel Curiel really good.

Hungry has been transferred to DVD in 2.00:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a Dolby Digital 5.1 and there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The DVD transfer looks really good. There are no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomalies. As for bonus features. There is a making of Hungry featurette. Well, that's better than nothing. 

Hungry is a film that had tons of potential, but misses the mark. And the DVD release could have been a bit better with a few more bonus features. But if you love those man-against-nature films, you may love Hungry.
