Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Arrow Video 4K UltraHD Review

Robin Hood has been seen in many forms of media over the years. From book to comic, from television to movies. Robin has also been portrayed by the great Errol Flynn and as a fox in the classic Disney film. But arguably one of the best versions is 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

This version of Robin Hood is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. So, for that epic of an anniversary, Arrow Video is releasing this action-adventure classic on 4K UltraHD for the first time ever.

Synopsis: Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner, Waterworld) returns from the Crusades to find his father dead and vows revenge. With his Moorish companion Azeem (Morgan Freeman, Unforgiven), he joins a band of peasant rebels to do battle against the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman, Die Hard) and win the hand of the fair Maid Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, The Abyss), cousin of the absent King of England.

This version of Robin Hood may not be as classic as Errol Flynn's version or as much fun as Mel Brooks' version Robin Hood: Men in Tights. But there is no denying that the POV arrow strikes and the casting of Kevin Costner and the great Morgan Freeman take a story that has been told time after time and make this a must-see version.

Arrow Video has transferred Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves to 4K (2160p). The audio track is the
original uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This 4K
restoration is for both the theatrical and extended cuts from the original negative by Arrow Films. Looking at this film in 4K is a pleasure. A wonderful upgrade. But along with a great 4K picture is the great bonus features included in this set.
