In 1984 the great filmmaker's son George Stevens Jr. created a tribute film about his famed father's legendary career. Warner Archive Collection celebrates the famed director with the release of the film "George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey" on 4K UltraHD and Blu-ray combo pack.
Synopsis: Signposts marking Stevens' life journey are here in a celebration of his work, humanity and times. Created by George Stevens, Jr., this moving portrait captures the moviemaker's career sweep from lighthearted early works to weightier postwar tales of social consciousness. The films explored are unforgettable: Alice Adams, Swing Time, Gunga Din, Shane, Giant, Stevens' own World War II footage and 6 other classics.
This film runs just over 2 hours, but is a wonderfully well paced film that never leaves you bored or feeling like you wished it was over. This film features Fred Astaire, Montgomery Clift, James Dean, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Rock Hudson, Alan Ladd, Spencer Tracy, Joel McCrea, Millie Perkins, Ginger Rogers, Elizabeth Taylor, Max Von Sydow, Shelley Winters, and fellow directors Warren Beatty, Frank Capra, John Huston, Josephy L. Mankiewicz, Allan J. Pakula and Fred Zinnemann.
This amazing tribute film has been transferred to 4K UltraHD in 2160p and presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is in English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The meticulous restoration of this film is stunning to say the least. To say I am glad that Warner Archive Collection decided to give this film a 4K release. Would be an understatement. The picture and audio quality of this film on this disc is crisp and clean with no signs of damage to this print. It is amazing to see how directors have been inspired by the great George Stevens. Listening to directors Nolan, del Toro and Scorsese wax poetic about Stevens is so awesome. These are nice additions to this 4K set.
