Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Complete Series Blu-ray Review – Anime Twist on the Cult Classic

Comic book artist Bryan Lee O'Malley created a graphic novel series entitled Scott Pilgrim in 2004. Six years later a live action film would be released. Than a short TV film entitled Scott Pilgrim vs the Animation. But since 2010 it has been quite, that is until 2023.  

Netflix developed a new Scott Pilgrim series alongside creator Bryan Lee O'Malley. Now in an unexpected move Universal Home Entertainment and Allied Vaughn Entertainment are bring Scott Pilgrim Takes Off The complete series to Blu-ray.

Synopsis: Based on the cult classic live-action film Scott Pilgrim vs. The Word, Scott Pilgrim returns in an 8-part animated series. The original film cast (including Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin and Anna Kendrick) reprise their roles in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off : The Complete Limited Series. Scott meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. 

This eight episode series is absolutely out of this world fun. The anime-inspired animation is top-notch and the voices are so familiar (understandably so). This is a super fast-paced little series. You will binge this series and finish it in no time flat.

These episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

These episodes are crystal clear. The colors pop right off the screen. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomolies. In addition to great looking episodes there is also bonus commentaries by Creators and Executive Producers Bryan Lee O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski.

It is so cool to see this Netflix series get a physical media release. I hope this is the beginning of more Netflix releases coming to Blu-ray. But only time will truly tell.
