There have been tons of films about organized crime. But not so much about the comedy side of the mob. There was Johnny Dangerously, Married to the Mob, Mikey Blue Eyes and The Freshman.
Ray McKinnon directed an Academy Award winning short film "The Accountant" in 2001, five years later he would release his crime comedy film entitled, "Randy and The Mob". Now Lightyear Entertainment is releasing Randy and The Mob on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: Good ol' boy Randy Pearson (Ray McKinnon), can't seem to help getting in over his head, and so he borrows from the Mob. When he can't pay, his only hope is a
helping hand from his long-suffering wife (Golden Globe Nominee Lisa Blount, An Officer and a Gentleman); his estranged, gay, twin brother (also played by McKinnon), and 'Tino Armani' (The Shield's Walton Goggins), a mysterious modern day prophet with a knack for high fashion, Italian cooking and making money appear - and disappear.
Randy and the Mob is a comedy farce that as surprisingly much funnier than I was expecting it to be. If you watched The Accountant, Randy and The Mob has a lot of familiar faces here. In addition there are tons of special appearances including; Vic Polizos (Harlem Nights), Bill Nunn (Do The Right Thing), and Burt Reynolds (Smokey and The Bandit).
Randy and the Mob has been transfered to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a stereo 2.0 track. Now this is no originary transfer, this transfer comes from a brand new 4K scan from the original film materials.
The film looks and sounds surprisingly good for a low budget release. Lightyear Entertainment not only put a new 4k scan film on this Blu-ray, but they also added some very cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included on this release.
Bonus Materials
* Making of' Featurette
* Cast and Crew Interviews
* Cast and Crew Interviews
* Bonus feature film: THE ACCOUNTANT (40 Mins./ 2001/ Academy Award Winner: Best Live Action Short Fim)
I love the addition of the featurette, interviews and the Awarding winning short. These bonus features takes a nice Blu-ray release and takes it to a whole new level. It's two films for the price of one. Making this release a must own for fans of mob comedy films.
