Arrow Video 4K Review: The Visitor (1979) UHD Blu-ray – Cult Sci-Fi Horror Reborn in Stunning 4K

In the late 1960s and into the 1970s, many films dealt with supernatural possession. We saw such films as Rosemary’s Baby (1968), The Exorcist (1973), and The Omen (1976). Well, with anything successful comes the opportunity to cash in on the phenomenon.

In 1979, there came an Italian production entitled The Visitor. This film was part horror, part sci-fi, and completely crazy. Now, Arrow Video has restored this film and released it on 4K UltraHD for the first time ever.

Synopsis: Killer birds! Psychokinesis! Satanic conspiracies! Exploding basketball hoops! Any attempt to explain the exact plot of The Visitor is an exercise in futility, but in the maelstrom of madness and mayhem is the tale of an ancient intergalactic entity capable of bearing Earthly children endowed with great powers. Powers which some are keen to harness and some to destroy. Eight year old Katy Collins is one such child, and as her powers emerge, the battle for her soul is about to begin.

The Visitor has an all-star cast that includes John Huston (Chinatown), Mel Ferrer (War and Peace), Glenn Ford (Superman), Shelley Winters (The Night of the Hunter), Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch)... and Franco Nero (Django himself) as Jesus! The Visitor is a film about the battle between good and evil. The film is visually stunning, but the story almost makes no sense. It truly is hard to follow.

The Visitor has been transferred to 4K UltraHD in 2160p and presented in widescreen format. The audio track is the original lossless mono audio. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This transfer isn't just any transfer; this comes from a brand new 4K restoration of the 109-min European version of the film from the original 35mm camera negative by Arrow Films. The Visitor has been beautifully restored and looks and sounds amazing. But Arrow Video didn't stop there; they added tons of bonus features on this release. Take a look at what is included.
