The Spencer Tracy Collection Blu-ray Review – A Golden Age Hollywood Showcase

Hollywood Legend Spencer Tracy starred in so many iconic films during his remarkable career. He even scored two Academy Awards one for Captains Courageous (1937) and the other for Boys Town (1938).

Warner Archive Collection have been releasing actor spotlight Blu-ray collecting the previously released individual Blu-rays into one set for a specific actor. So now it is time for Spencer Tracy to get to shine on a 4-disc Blu-ray set.

Libeled Lady (1936) When a socialite sues a big paper for libel, the editor responsible calls in the help of his ignored fiancée and a former employee to frame her and make the false story seem true. ***

Northwest Passage (1940) Langdon Towne and Hunk Marriner join Major Rogers' Rangers as they wipe out an Indian village. They set out for Fort Wentworth, but when they arrive they find no soldiers and none of the supplies they expected. ***

Fury (1950) When a wrongly-accused prisoner barely survives a lynch-mob attack and is presumed dead, he vindictively decides to fake his death and frame the mob for his supposed murder. ***

Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) Following World War II, a one-armed stranger arrives in a tiny California desert town, but finds the residents hostile and protecting a terrible secret they want to keep hidden, by violent means if necessary. ****

Each if these films were released on Blu-ray from Warner Archive Collection earlier. These are the discs that are collected here. All films have been restored and transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.37:1 and 2.55:1 aspect ratios. The audio tracks are English DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono and 2.0 Stereo. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Each of these restorations are simply gorgeous. Forget about collecting these films in any other way. You will not find better looking copies of these films than on these Blu-rays. Plus Warner Archive always adds some nice bonus features on there Blu-ray. Take a look at what is included on these discs.

To be perfectly honest I wished that the Spencer Tracy Collection had more of his award-winning performances in it. But I understand this is a collection of already released Blu-rays collected together for physical media fans who want movies in less space.
