Garden of Love (2003) Blu-ray Review – Underground Splatter Returns

German film director Olaf Ittenbach is known for his films with graphic violence and the use of practical effects over the less believable CGI. In 2003 he directed arguably one of his best works in Garden of Love.

88 Films is known for giving these lesser known horror films a chance to live forever on physical media with Blu-ray releases. Well, now it is time for Ittenbach's Garden of Love to live forever!

Synopsis: The story of a young woman tormented by bloody visions of a past she can't really remember. All she knows is that all of her family was slaughtered when she was very young. Now, the spirits of the dead lusts for vengeance and they want Rebecca to guide those responsible to them. Rebecca reluctantly agrees and bloodspurting chaos ensues.

Horror fans can be as far spread as the east is from the west when it come to what they like to see on film. Some feel atmosphere drive horror where others feel the more gore the better. When if you fit into the latter, Olaf's Garden of Love is for you. This is a bloody gory splatter fest that can turn your stomach.

The story is an interesting one and the pacing of the film movies right along at a good speed. The cast features   Natacza Boon, James Matthews-Pyecka, and Daryl Jackson, they take you on this horrific ride to thew Garden of Love.

88 Films have transferred Garden of Love to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in its original 1.77:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS 5.1 Surround and a PCM 2.0 Stereo Audio. Finally there is the option for English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

88 Films always does a remarkable job with their transfers to Blu-ray, and Garden of Love is no different. A stunningly crisp looking transfer without losing the gritty feel the film needs to feel creepy and dirty. The Blu-ray is not a bare bones release, thankfully. Take a look at what bonus features are included.

Bonus Materials
* Making Of Garden of Love featurette
* Behind the Scenes
* Photo Gallery
* Trailer

The bonus features are nice but are a bit on the skimpy side for this release. I would have liked to see maybe an audio commentary, interviews ect. That would have made this a lot better. But it does come with a nice slipcover. So, there is that.

At the time of this review, we are rapidly approaching Valentine's Day and what a great time to pick up this Blu-ray and what it with that special someone. Okay maybe not. Or maybe. I just it depends on your taste.
