Hazbin Hotel Season 1 Blu-ray Review | Prime Video’s Hit Animated Series on Disc

Adult animation shows are tons of fun. From the beginning with shows like Dr. Katz, Duckman: Private Detective and The Critic. To the new shows like King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob's Burgers.

On October 29th, 2019 on YouTube a pilot for an adult animated series debuted. Fast forward to 2024 Amazon Prime greenlit and added the series "Hazbin Hotel" to their streaming service. But now for physical media fans you can now own the first season of Hazbin Hotel on Blu-ray.

Synopsis: In an attempt to find a non-violent alternative for reducing Hell's overpopulation, the daughter of Lucifer opens a rehabilitation hotel that offers a group of misfit demons a chance at redemption.

Hazbin Hotel Season 1 is a truncated season. It only consists of 8 half hour episodes. This is become the norm with streaming seasons as opposed to actual TV episodes. This series is filled with profanity and almost applauds the moral depravity and satanic worship. 

An animated musical series. I like the premise. There is toe tapping music and great voice acting. Now I know some love this series, but for me the raunchy humor was a bit too much.   

All eight season 1 episodes have been transferred to 2 Blu-ray discs in 1080p and are presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English 5.1 track and there is the option for English subtitles or the English audio description track.

This is 4 half hour episodes on one Blu-ray. These episodes look and sound crisp and clean. There are no digital artifacts or audio anomalies to worry about. The colors are bright and vibrant, and animation is sharp as a tack. 

In addition to 2 Blu-ray discs with 8 episodes. This release has episode commentaries featuring the creator Vivienne Medrano, Animation director Skye Henwood and Art Director Sam Miller. There are also a fold-up poster and an exclusive, premium foil or cracked ice promo card for Hazbin Hotel Trading Cards.

So, Hazbin Hotel is not for everyone. Some might be offended by the subject matter. But if you enjoy this series, this new deluxe Blu-ray is a really nice release. I must be honest with only 8 episodes it is a little light on entertainment value.
