The world lost a comedy legend when we lost Robin Williams. His performances in standup, TV shows, talk shows, and movies live on for new generations to witness his genius. But after years of crazy high-octane comedy, Williams began to transition to serious drama.
In 1990 after dipping his toe in drama Williams joined Robert DeNiro for a film based on a real-life account. The film was Awakenings. Now for the 35th anniversary of this film's release Sony Pictures has released this film on 4K UltraHD!
Synopsis: Based on a true story of a maverick doctor and the patients whose lives he changes. Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams) is a shy research physician who uses an experimental drug to "awaken" the catatonic victims of a rare disease. Leonard (Robert DeNiro) is the first patient to receive the controversial treatment. His awakening, filled with awe and enthusiasm, proves a rebirth for Sayer too, and he reveals life's simple but unutterably sweet pleasures to the doctor.
Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams deliver unforgettable performances. And Penny Marshall probably best known as Laverne from the TV Show Laverne and Shirley sits in the director's chair and brings forth a wonderful, heartfelt and deeply emotional cinematic experience.
