SS Experiment Love Camp (1976) – 88 Films 4K Blu-ray Review: Shocking Nazi Exploitation Restored in Ultra HD

In the history of cinema there have been many films that had subject matter that could be considered extremely offensive. So offensive in fact that many countries would have banned or heavy censored the films to make them able to be played in the country.

One such film was 1976 SS Experiment Love Camp. The film became infamous as part of the 1980s "Video Nasties" list, a group of films banned under the Video Recordings Act of 1984.

This film is approaching its 50th anniversary. So, for this epic of an anniversary, 88 Films have given Sergio Garrone's Nazisploitation film a super deluxe 4K/Blu-ray release.

Synopsis: Set during the tail-end of World War II we follow the deranged experiments performed on innocent prisoners of war by the utterly sadistic and evil Colonel von Kleiben in his attempt to create the perfect Aryan race. Shocking, notorious and endlessly exploitative, the movie continues to disgust audiences all over the globe nearly 50 years after its initial release.

Without spoiling to much the experiments are to restore the commandant to his previous "health" after he was injured! This film is not for the faint of heart. For 1976 it is extremely graphic. The producers unapologetically made a shocking, brazen, over-the-top feature that for some audiences would deem the subject matter insensitive.

But as will all films it is up to the taste of the individual. Not everybody loves the same kind of genre of films. That is why there is so many. And why so many films in different genres are made every year.

88 Films has transferred SS Experiment Love Camp to 4K in 2160p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio and to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options. There is an English 2.0 LPCM Stereo with Optional SDH Subtitles and an Italian 2.0 LPCM Mono with newly translated English subtitles.

Now this 4K transfer isn't just any transfer is it taken from a brand new 4K remaster from the original negatives. 88 Films always do an outstanding job with their restorations. You can be assured that. And SS Experiment Love Camp is no different. The colors are bright and vibrant. The picture is crisp and clean, and the audio is clear.

Now as we said earlier this is a super deluxe 4k/Blu-ray edition of the film. So in addition to newly restored picture in 4K. 88 Films added some nice bonus features that fans of this genre are going to enjoy. Take a look at what is included.
