Happy Gilmore 4K Review: Golf, Laughs, and UltraHD Upgrade

Just a little over a month ago Happy Gilmore 2 was released streaming on Netflix. Bring with it a sense of nostalgia but more importantly a remembrance of how awesome the original truly was. Pretty much anyone will tell you the best Adam Sandler film is Happy Gilmore.

Now it is hard to believe, but February 2026 will be the 30th anniversary of Happy Gilmore's theatrical release. 30 years! Has it truly been that long? Well, Kino Lorber under the division of KL Studio Classics, for this epic anniversary, have given this Happy Gilmore a 4K release!

Synopsis: Fore! Make way for the pro golf circuit’s worst nightmare—Happy Gilmore. Comedy legend Adam Sandler (Billy Madison) stars in this beloved fairway farce that scores a hole-in-one for gut-busting wit and outrageous slapstick. Although Happy dreams of becoming a professional hockey player, he discovers that his hockey slap shot translates to an astonishing 400-yard tee shot. So when his grandmother loses her home to the IRS, Happy decides to earn the house back by joining the pro golf tour, bringing his ferocious temper and outlandish antics to the well-tended fairways. Before long, Happy is a media sensation, attracting crowds and news cameras wherever he goes. But Happy’s bitter rival, Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald, Thelma & Louise), has his own plans for the golf superstar, resulting in a riotous and laugh-filled confrontation on the links.

I have watched a lot of Adam Sandler films in my life and truly Happy Gilmore is my favorite. Sandler is at his best in this role. But let's not forget he is surrounded by great supporting cast including, Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen, Richard Kiel, Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller and The Price Is Right’s Bob Barker!

Kino Lorber has transferred Happy Gilmore to 4k in 2160p and is presented in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. One thing Kino Lorber is known for is the tremendous job they do with their transfers. And I am pleased to say Happy Gilmore is no exception.

The picture is so sharp and crisp, and the colors pop off the screen. The audio is clean and clear as a bell. The great music is on glorious full display! Kino Lorber never disappoints with the quality of their releases!

Now this new 4K of happy Gilmore is not just a one-disc set. This is a two-disc set! It includes both the 4K disc and the Blu-ray Disc. The Blu-ray disc houses special bonus features including an audio commentary recorded by author and filmmaker Bryan Connolly and The Billy Gilmore Podcast host Wilson Smith. Other extras include Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, and trailers.

I love that Kino Lorber didn't make the Blu-ray disc just a throw away! Plus, if you haven't made the jump to 4K just yet, no worries you have a Blu-ray disc that looks amazing as well. Then when you make that leap to UltraHD, you're ready to go on adventure with Happy Gilmore.

Adam Sandler fans are going to be 'happy' with this release of Happy Gilmore on 4k! It looks and sounds amazing, and the film still is hilarious 30 years later! So why not upgrade your Happy Gilmore DVD to this simply stunning 4K release from Kino Lorber. Head over to Amazon or Kino Lorber and order your copy today!
