Rock Bottom (2024) DVD Review

Robert Wyatt was a musician and singer and one of the founding members of the British rock bands Soft Machine and Matching Mole. His influence has been felt through the generations. His greatest album was Rock Bottom, and in honor of its fiftieth anniversary, María Trénor directed an animated love story based on Robert Wyatt and his future wife, the artist Alfreda Benge.

Now Cleopatra Entertainment has taken this 2024 animated movie and given it a DVD release so that animated film fans and 70s music fans can enjoy this film any time. This is why I am a supporter of physical media. You can watch this film anytime, without having to worry if it is available for streaming.

Synopsis: Inspired by the music and life of Robert Wyatt, Rock Bottom is a self-destructive love story between Bob and Alif, a young couple of artists immersed in the creative whirlwind of the early 70s hippie culture. Drugs will turn a passionate summer into a nightmare in a journey through the themes of Wyatt's music: the euphoria and anguish of artistic creation, the unconscious fascination with drugs, the disenchantment with routine and physical and mental degradation.

Rock Bottom is an impressive visual experience. The animation is just spectacular. The story is a poetic love story, but it there are times the film feels like it loses its way a bit. But the music really helps stich this film together.

MVD Visual has transferred this film to DVD, and it is presented in widescreen format. The transfer is crisp and clean. The colors are bright and vibrant. There are no digital artifacts that I saw when screening this film. Now Cleopatra and MVD have added some bonus features to this DVD release. Take a look at what is included.

Robert Wyatt's life is a unique one. A man who was making a career in music and lost so much in a horrible accident and became a paraplegic. As cool as this animated love story is. I would have preferred to see a documentary of his life, like that of the previous Cleopatra DVD Lead Belly

If you love animated films, 70s culture and music this film Rock Bottom may be the type of film you would love to add to your home video library. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.

Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) the DVD of Rock Bottom receives.....
