Captain Planet: The Complete Franchise (Blu-ray Review)

The 1990s saw a huge swing in superhero cartoons. Such classics as Batman, Batman Beyond, Superman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Power Puff Girls and The Tick. At the beginning of the decade Turner Program Services and DIC Enterprises produced a series for TBS Network and syndication. That Series was Captain Planet and the Planeteers.

Now for the 35th anniversary of this series debut Warner Archive Collection has released the entire two series run of Captain Planet on Blu-ray! That is six seasons and 113 episodes on 9 Blu-ray discs. Now 90s kids can relive their childhood with Captain Planet in HD!

Synopsis: Five courageous teens from all over the world are brought together to embody the power of the elements and protect the planet. With their powers magnified, the Planeteers can summon Captain Planet to help because saving our planet is the thing to do!

Captain Planet was and still is a very entertaining series. But this series was one that had a deeper message. This series tried to shine a light on the problem with pollution, drugs, hatred and many more issues. The stories were exciting without be too preachy.

Just some names included, Ed Asner, John Ratzenberger, Jeff Goldblum, Dean Stockwell, Meg Ryan, Tim Curry, Neil Patrick Harris, Danny Glover, Martin Sheen, Phyliss Diller, James Coburn, Malcolm McDowell, Sting, Whoopi Goldberg, LeVar Burton.

The episodes of Captain Planet have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p High Definition and are present in the original 1.33:1 Full Frame aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

These episodes look really nice in HD. The colors are bright and vibrant, but admittedly there are some specks of imperfections, but they are very minor. There is nothing here that will take away from the enjoyment of this series. And there is no denying that this is a great upgrade from the previous DVD set.

These episodes are still entertaining 30 years afterwards their original broadcast. Captain Planet is timeless. And will still entertain and educate! We need to introduce a whole new generation to Captain Planet and let them know that "The Power is Yours!"
