When you think of medical TV Shows you think E.R., Grey's Anatomy, Chicago Med, St. Elsewhere, and if you go back to earlier TV shows they don't get much better than Marcus Welby M.D. and M*A*S*H*. But near the beginning of the 2000s FOX brought the world a unique medical drama with a black comedy spin. That show was House M.D.
For the 20th anniversary of the TV Series debut Universal Home Entertainment released the complete series of House M.D. on Blu-ray and this isn't just a bare bones release, no way. Universal added a lot of cool bonus features that will have fans dizzy with joy.
Synopsis: Two-time Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie is Dr. Gregory House, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital's Chief of Diagnostic Medicine, whose astounding intellect is matched only by his frightening bedside manner. Relive every captivating moment as House and his team of doctors solve complex medical mysteries, push professional boundaries, and face their own demons.
House M.D. is nothing like you have seen before. This show doesn't just deal with doctors that are trying to cure the sick. House goes into solving mysteries. And the lead character of Doctor Gregory House is an extremely flawed human being. House is a man is extreme pain and addicted to pain pills. His trying to solve crimes and his addiction makes him almost a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Especially when you see House's 'friendship' with Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard).
After watching House M.D. Hugh Laurie's wit just embodies House. It's hard to believe he was not considered for the role. Executive Producer Bryan Singer considered actors like Denis Leary, David Cross, Rob Morrow, and Patrick Dempsey. But thankfully Laurie put together an audition tape in the bathroom and sent it in and the executive producers were so impressed they cast him. And what a casting it was.
In addition to Laurie and Leonard there are other amazing performances by Lisa Edelstein (Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy), Jesse Spencer (Dr. Robert Chase), Jenifer Morrison (Dr. Allison Cameron) and Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps). After the first three seasons the cast was shaken up added new doctors Olivia Wilde (Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley), Peter Jacobson (Dr. Chris Taub), and Kal Penn (Dr. Lawrence Kutner).
House M.D. ran for an exciting 8 seasons a total of 177 episodes. Each season gets its own color-coded season case. And these 8 seasons contain a total of 39 discs. These 8 season Blu-ray cases are 'housed' in a big black and yellow slip box.
These episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and are presented in 1.78.1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
These episodes look so are crisp and clean. The picture is sharp, and the colors are vibrant and the audio is clear. Universal Home Entertainment has done a wonderful job with these transfers. But a great looking 177 episodes is not all that is included in this set. Universal added some great bonus features.
Special Features:
* Bloopers
* Alternate Takes
* An Original Short
* Episode Commentaries with Writers and Producers
* Audition Tapes
* A Set Tour
* Behind-the-Scenes Content

This 39 disc Blu-ray set is something special. It is almost 130 hours of content. That is almost six 24-hour days of entertainment in one huge box set. The is a lot for one Blu-ray set. So Universal really went above and beyond to make this set a must own for House M.D. fans.
Now I know I am in the minority on this. Most believe that season 4 is the best of the series, but I loved the first three seasons of this series. When they switched things up, I wasn't as engaged with the show as before. But House is still House. His relationship with Dr. Wilson and Dr. Cuddy still kept me coming back for more episodes. The show is defiantly binge worthy.
If you love medical dramas as much as I do you are going to love House M.D. And if you want the most bang for your buck this Complete Series Blu-ray set is the perfect way to see it. Head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today.
