It is hard to believe that this film is over 75 years old! For the 75th anniversary of the film's initial release VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual have given this noir classic a Blu-ray/DVD release.
Synopsis: Millionaire industrialist, Walter Willams, has it all, power, money, success and a supposed, idyllic life with his young, beautiful wife, Irene. When a business trip to Denver arises, Walter decides to take his wife along, hoping to turn the scenic ride over the mountains via Lake Tahoe into a mini vacation. However, things begin to go awry when Irene claims she's ill and can't go but insists Walter give a ride to her poor 'cousin,' who is hitchhiking his way home to Evanston, Illinois. The 'cousin' is actually Irene's lover, Jim Torrence, and he is there to carry out his and Irene's plot to murder Walter. But in a twist of fate, after Jim's attack upon Walter, and while Jim is fleeing the scene, he is killed in a head-on collision. Once the bloodied, very shaken, and very bewildered Walter awakens and pieces together what all had happened, he claims amnesia and goes into hiding, with the hope of somehow bringing Irene to justice.
Impact has a nice mix or noir drama and a hint of comedy that makes this film really fun to watch. It has a nice pacing, with solid performances by Brian Donlevy (Beau Geste) and Ella Raines (Phantom Lady). But the whole cast really brings their all in this film.
Impact has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in the original full screen format. The audio is an English Dolby Digital mono audio. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Now you can watch Impact on multiple streaming services, but to be honest these copies don't look as good as this one. VCI Entertainment has a wonderfully crisp looking copy. There is something about the quality of physical media that streaming just can't compare to. And Impact is an example of that as well!
