Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock Season 1 (Blu-ray Review)

When I was a small child I remember laying in front of the TV changing the channels, when I ran across a rerun of the show Fraggle Rock. Now I loved The Muppet Show and this was more great adventures with Muppet like creatures like the fun-loving Fraggles, the hard-working Doozers and the larger than life Gorgs. I was literally enthralled with the world of The Fraggles.

Jim Henson was a visionary, a genius. He brought us unforgettable characters that have lived on long after his tragic passing. The original Fraggle Rock lasted 5 seasons and 96 episodes. Well, in 2022, 35 years after the final episode of the original Fraggle Rock show aired Apple TV+ brought back the adventures of the Fraggles with Back to the Rock!

Synopsis: Welcome to the world of Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock! Just through a hole in the wall of Doc's workshop, you will find the magical underground home of the hilarious, musical, fun-loving Fraggles, industrious little Doozers, and giant lumbering Gorgs, not to mention an endless array of wondrous creatures that live in the tunnels and caves of Fraggle Rock! Packed with Fraggle-y comedy, exhilarating adventures, memorable songs, and celebrity guest stars like Daveed Diggs, Ed Helms, Cynthia Erivo, Patti LaBelle, Kenan Thompson, and Foo Fighters, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock explores the magic that happens when we celebrate and care for our interconnected world.

Jerome Crystal aka "Doc" was played by Gerard Parkes in the original series. Sadly, he passed away in 2014 at the age of 90.  So, this reboot would need a new "Doc", enter Lilli Cooper to play this new version of Doc. In this series Doc is a young grad student working on her doctorate in marine ecosystems and we still get to see the awesome dog Sprocket whom this Doc owns.

Even though this show is 35 years removed from the original series, the spirit of Fraqggle Rock is still there in all its other world adventures and wonderful music. The production value of this series is simply stunning.

The first season 13 episodes and a Christmas Special is collected on 3 Blu-ray discs. The episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in widescreen format and 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master audio 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The episodes look crisp and clean. There are no signs of digital artifacts found on these transfers. The audio is clear as a bell with no audio anomalies. The colors are bright and look like something out of a pack of Skittles.

Now in addition to all 13 season 1 episodes and the Christmas special "Night of Lights". Sony Pictures Home Entertainment added some cool bonus features to this Blu-ray set. take a look at what has been included on this set.
