The West Wing: The Complete Series (1999-2006) Warner Brothers Blu-ray Review

Writer Aaron Sorkin during his illustrious career has been nominated over 170 times for various awards and has won 104 of them. He has worked on Broadway, but he is probably best known for his TV Shows. His credits include Sports Night (1998–2000), Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006–07), and The Newsroom (2012–14). But his best works is most widely thought to be the TV series The West Wing.

It is so hard to believe that The West Wing is celebrating the 25th anniversary. So, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment have decided to release the Complete Series on Silver Anniversary deluxe edition Blu-ray for the first time ever.

SynopsisThe West Wing ventured where no other TV series had gone before: an extraordinarily intimate look at an American President and the inner workings of the White House. Experience all the crises, triumphs, lofty idealism and hard realities of the acclaimed series that won 26 Emmys, including 4 for Outstanding Drama Series.

Martin Sheen expertly portrays the two-term Democratic President Josiah Bartlett. But of course Sheen is not alone here, not by a longshot. He is surrounded by a stellar cast that includes Richard Schiff as communications director Toby Ziegler; Rob Lowe as Toby’s deputy director, Sam Seaborn; John Spencer as Bartlett’s chief of staff, Leo McGarry; Allison Janney as press secretary C.J. Cregg, who later succeeds McGarry; Bradley Whitford as McGarry’s deputy, Josh Lyman; and Stockard Channing as First Lady Abbey Bartlett.

The dialogue is realistic and there is great character development throughout this series. Also the cinematography is amazing. They way this show is shot you feel as if you are literally peering into the inner workings of the White House. Admittedly The West Wing suffered after its fourth season as Sorkin left. John Wells came in as the showrunner. Now no one can be Sorkin, but John Wells did a good job finishing the series run.

Warner Brothers has transferred The West Wing to Blu-ray for the first time ever. All seven seasons that is 156 episodes are found on 28 Blu-ray discs. The episodes are presented in 1080p in widescreen format. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

These episodes look absolutely stellar on Blu-ray. They are crisp and clean with no signs of damage or digital artifacts. The audio is clear with no hiss, pops or audio anomalies. If you want to see this series this Blu-ray set is a great way to do it! But 156 episode is not all that is included in this set. Take a look at the bonus features included on these discs.
